EPA releases data on small refinery hardship waivers


The U.S. EPA has released new data on small refinery hardship waivers confirming the agency has, to date, waived volumes equal to approximately 1.46 billion renewable identification numbers (RINs) for 2017 and 790 million RINs for 2016.

Cellulosic biorefinery to break ground in North Dakota


A biorefinery that will produce 16 MMgy of cellulosic ethanol and 120,000 of lignin pellets is set to break ground in Spiritwood, North Dakota, in spring 2019. The facility, under development by New Energy Blue, will feature Inbicon technology.

California governor signs RNG procurement bill into law


On Sept. 23, California Gov. Jerry Brown signed SB 1440, which authorizes a state procurement program for renewable natural gas (RNG). SB 1440 was the second piece of RNG legislation signed by Brown in late September.

Envia idles GTL plant, Velocys focuses on Mississippi project


Velocys has announced that Envia Energy will suspend operations at its Oklahoma City plant due to financial circumstances. The gas-to-liquids facility, which features Velocys’ Fischer-Tropsch technology, began producing finished products in 2017.

Atlantic Power to acquire 2 South Carolina biomass plants


Atlantic Power Corp. announced Sept. 20 that it has executed an agreement to acquire two biomass plants in South Carolina from EDF Renewables Inc. for $13 million. Closing of the transaction is expected to occur during the second half of 2019.
