EPA proposes 2020 RVOs, 2021 RVO for biomass-based diesel


The U.S. EPA has proposed to require 20.04 billion gallons of renewable fuels to be blended into the U.S. fuel supply next year, up from 19.92 billion gallons in 2019, according to a rulemaking released by the agency July 5.

Electricity excluded from EPA’s proposed 2020 RFS fuel targets


The U.S. EPA released proposed 2020 RFS RVOs on July 5. More than 11 years have passed since Congress included electricity from renewable feedstocks as a qualifying fuel in the program, and yet again EPA has ignored electricity in its rulemaking.

USDA: Wood pellet exports up in May


The USDA Foreign Agricultural Service released updated export data July 3, reporting wood pellet exports reached 553,882.9 tons in May, up from 415,836.2 tons during the same month of the previous year and up from 424,680.5 tons in April.

GESS International to construct fifth biogas plant in Missouri


GESS International has announced plans to construct a fifth biomass plant in Missouri. The plant will be located in Chariton County. GESS International originally announced plans to build four biogas plants in the state in March.

UK releases Q1 energy statistics


The U.K. sourced 35.8 percent of its electricity from renewables during the first quarter of 2019, up from 30.5 percent during the same period of 2018, according to data released by the U.K. government on June 27.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration has released the July edition of its Short-Term Energy Outlook, predicting nonhydropower renewables will provide 11 percent of utility-scale generation this year, increasing to 13 percent next year.

Total begins operations at biorefinery in France


Total announced July 3 it has started up production at its La Mède biorefinery in southeastern France. The company has been working since to 2015 to convert the former oil refinery into a new energies complex.

EIA: Densified biomass fuel sales reach 710,000 tons in March


The U.S. Energy Information Administration recently released data showing U.S. manufacturers produced approximately 770,000 tons of densified biomass fuel in March, with sales reaching 710,000 tons.

C-Capture secures grant to scale up Drax carbon capture pilot


C-Capture, working alongside the Drax Group, has secured a £5 million grant from the U.K. government for a two year program of work to progress its bioenergy and carbon capture and storage (BECCS) project at Drax Power Station.
