New Hampshire PUC considers lowering biomass RPS requirements The New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission filed a notice on Dec. 24 announcing it is considering reducing the compliance year 2019 Class III requirement for existing biomass and methane under the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard. Suncor challenges EPA ruling to deny its SREs applications Oil refiner Suncor Energy U.S.A. Inc. has filed a petition for review with the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals challenging the EPA’s decision to rule its refinery complex located in Commerce City, Colorado, is ineligible to receive SREs under the RFS. FuelCell Energy: California biogas project begins operations FuelCell Energy Inc. on Dec. 27 announced the start of commercial operation of the 2.8 megawatt fuel cell project located at the wastewater treatment facility of the city of Tulare, California. EIA: Densified biomass fuel sales reach 870,000 tons in September The U.S. Energy Information Administration recently released data showing U.S. manufactures produced approximately 840,000 tons of densified biomass fuel in September, with sales reaching 870,000 tons. READ MORE SHARE
Financial close reached on 2MW bioenergy project in California U.K.-based gasification company Eqtec plc announced on Jan. 2 that the company has reached financial close on a proposed 2 megawatt biomass project in North Fork, California. The project is currently scheduled to begin commissioning in early 2021. READ MORE SHARE
Drax Biomass appoints new leader Drax Biomass Inc. announced Jan. 6 that Matt White will become its new senior vice president and run Drax’s U.S. biomass operations from its headquarters in Monroe, Louisiana. Drax Biomass produces wood pellets for use at Drax Power Station. READ MORE SHARE
