Report: Biomass, biofuels can help US meet net-zero goal The House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis on June 30 unveiled a climate crisis action plan that aims to serve as a congressional roadmap to help the U.S. reach net-zero emissions by 2050. New BECCS pilot project under development at Drax Power Station Drax Group and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engineering Ltd., part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group, have agreed a new bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) pilot project at Drax Power Station that will get underway this autumn. 	Report: Netherlands to double wood pellet imports in 2020 The Netherlands doubled its wood pellet imports to a record 1.22 million metric tons in 2019, according to a report filed with the USDA. Governors’ Biofuels Coalition urges EPA to reject gap year SREs The Governors’ Biofuels Coalition sent a letter to U.S. EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler on June 29 urging the agency to deny the 52 gap year SREs oil companies have filed in an effort to circumvent the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeal's Jan. 24 ruling. Ernst blocks nomination of deputy EPA administrator over SREs Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, announced she will block the nomination of Doug Benevento to serve as deputy administrator of the U.S. EPA until the agency discloses exactly how it plans to deal with gap year SRE petitions under the RFS. Greenlane announces $15.2M in system supply contracts Greenlane Renewables Inc. on June 29 that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Greenlane Biogas North America Ltd., has signed $20.6 million (US$15.2 million) in new supply contracts using Greenlane’s pressure swing adsorption (PSA) biogas upgrading system. Construction decision on Dutch biomass heating plant delayed Vattenfall, a power company owned by the government of Sweden, announced on June 25 it will delay making a final decision on the construction of a proposed 120 megawatt biomass-fired district heating plant planned for development near Amsterdam. City of Boulder, Western Disposal finalize RNG agreement The City of Boulder has finalized an agreement with Western Disposal for the sale of renewable natural gas (RNG) generated at the city’s Water Resources Recovery Facility.
