USDA: US wood pellet exports at 513,608 metric tons in May The U.S. exported 513,608 metric tons of wood pellets in May, down from both 635,463.4 metric tons in April and 572,499.8 metric tons in May 2020, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on July 2. Randy Feenstra, R-Iowa, and Angie Craig, D-Minn., on July 2 introduced the Small Refinery Exemption Clarification Act of 2021, which aims to clarify the definition of “extension” in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 25 ruling on SREs. EIA: US biofuel capacity up in April The U.S. EIA released its latest Monthly Biofuels Capacity and Feedstock Update on June 30, reporting that production capacity for both fuel ethanol and “other” biofuels increased in April. Capacity for biodiesel held steady. READ MORE SHARE
Drax increases ownership share of 2 US pellet plants Drax has agreed to acquire a 20 percent minority interest in Alabama Pellets LLC—the joint venture which owns the Demopolis and Aliceville pellet plants—from The Westervelt Company for $29.7 million cash consideration. READ MORE SHARE
