Senate passes bill with new SAF, clean fuel, hydrogen tax credits The Senate on Aug. 7 passed the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 by a vote of 51 to 50 along party lines. Vice President Kamala Harris cast the tie-breaking vote. The bill includes a range of provisions benefiting biofuel and bioenergy prodcution. READ MORE SHARE
Enviva announces new contracts, continues to expand capacity Enviva Inc. released second quarter financial results on Aug. 3, reporting increased net revenue for the three-month period. 	Drax to acquire Canadian pellet plant from PSPC Drax Group has signed an agreement with Princeton Standard Pellet Corp. to acquire its pellet plant in Princeton, British Columbia, Canada. The plant, which has been operating since 1995, has the capacity to produce 90,000 metric tons per year. READ MORE SHARE
Calumet to begin renewable diesel production this fall Calumet Specialty Products Partners L.P. expects to begin producing renewable diesel at its facility in Great Fall, Montana, within the next 60 to 70 days, according to comments made by CEO Todd Borgmann during a Q2 earnings call on Aug. 5. Gevo to celebrate Net Zero 1 groundbreaking in September Gevo Inc. plans to host a groundbreaking ceremony in September to kick off the initial site work phase at its proposed Net Zero 1 facility under development in Lake Preston, South Dakota, according to comments made by CEO Patrick Gruber on Aug. 8. DOE achieves major biofuel technology, production milestone The U.S. Department of Energy Bioenergy Technologies Office partnered with T2C-Energy LLC to validate pilot-scale production of drop-in biofuels with a price of $3 per gallon of gas equivalent and at least 60 percent lower GHG than petroleum. USDA: US wood pellet exports at 832,092 metric tons in June The U.S. exported 832,092.2 metric tons of wood pellets in June, up from both 740,605 metric tons in May and 603,794.9 metric tons in June 2021, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on Aug. 4. READ MORE SHARE
UK funds biomass feedstock, biobased hydrogen projects The U.K. government on Aug. 4 awarded £32 million to 12 projects that aim to increase production of sustainable biomass. An additional £5 million was awarded to 22 projects to support new technologies that generate hydrogen from biomass and waste. READ MORE SHARE
NextChem awarded contract for wood-to-biomethane conversion Maire Tecnimont S.p.A. announces that its subsidiary NextChem has been awarded a contract by Storengy to carry out an advanced basic engineering study for a waste wood and solid recovered fuel conversion plant to produce biomethane. EIA: US biofuel capacity down in May, feedstock use up U.S. operatable biofuels production capacity was down slightly in May, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on July 29. Feedstock consumption, however, was up when compared to both the prior month and May 2021. READ MORE SHARE
Brightmark, Chevron announce first gas at Athena project Brightmark RNG Holdings LLC delivered first gas at its Athena project in Minnehaha County, South Dakota. The project is expected to capture methane generated by manure at three dairy farms and process the biogas into RNG. READ MORE SHARE
Anaergia supplies food waste system to project in Singapore Anaergia Inc. has signed a contract to supply its organic waste treatment solutions to the joint venture selected by Singapore’s National Environment Agency for its Tuas Nexus Integrated Waste Management Facility EPC2 contract.
