Gevo breaks ground on South Dakota SAF facility Gevo Inc. on Sept. 15 broke ground of its first commercial-scale sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility, Net-Zero 1 (NZ1). This project schedule is expected to allow Gevo to begin delivery of initial volumes of SAF in 2025. READ MORE SHARE

Grassley introduces bill to create biochar research network Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa; John Thune, R-S.D.; Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio; and Jon Tester, D-Mont., on Sept. 20 introduced the Biochar Research Network Act. Companion legislation was introduced by Rep. New California law promotes the continued use of biomass power California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Sept. 16 signed an expansive package of climate legislation, including a bill that extends for five years a requirement for electric investor-owned utilities to purchase energy from biomass generating facilities. EU vote allows biomass to continue to help meet RED goals MEPs on Sept. 14 voted in favor of proposals for a revised RED. The proposals aim to raise the share of renewables in the EU's final energy consumption to 45 percent by 2030. They also address the use of woody biomass. READ MORE SHARE
DriveClean initiative launches, advocates for national CFS A diverse group of clean fuel stakeholders, including several biofuel producers, on Sept. 19 launched the DriveClean initiative, which is urging lawmakers to create a market-based technology-neutral national Clean Fuel Standard. Neste considers transitioning Porvoo refinery to renewables Neste is launching a strategic study on transitioning its refinery in Porvoo, Finland, to non-crude oil refining and into a globally leading renewable and circular solutions site. Novilla RNG begins construction on RNG project in Michigan Red Leaf RNG LLC, a subsidiary of Novilla Investment Holdings LLC, announced on Sept. 12 the beginning of construction of its first dairy renewable natural gas (RNG) project in Michigan at Maple Row Dairy. READ MORE SHARE
EPA: 1.81 billion RINs generated in August The U.S. EPA on Sept. 15 released updated renewable identification number (RIN) data, reporting that nearly 1.81 billion RINs were generated under the RFS in August, up from 1.72 billion generated during the same month of last year. READ MORE SHARE
USDA invests up to $2.8B in 70 climate-smart projects The USDA on Sept. 14 announced it is investing up to $2.8 billion in 70 selected projects under the first pool of the agency’s Partnerships for Climate-Smart Communities funding opportunity. Vision RNG breaks ground on project in Missouri Vision RNG LLC has broken ground on a renewable natural gas (RNG) project located on the Meridian Waste Eagle Ridge Landfill located in Bowling Green, Missouri. Construction on the project is expected to be complete in Q1 2023. READ MORE SHARE
