The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) data for April, reporting that nearly 1.59 billion RINs were generated during the month, including more than 20.78 million cellulosic RINs.
More than 20.67 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in April, bringing the net total for the first four months of the year to 62.41 million. So far this year, nearly 4.5 million D3 RINs have been generated for ethanol, with 39.76 million generated for renewable compressed natural gas and 18.15 million generated for renewable liquefied natural gas. To date, 52.11 million D3 RINs have been generated domestically, with 10.3 million generated by importers.
According to the EPA, 110,220 D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated in April, bringing the net total for the first four months of the year to 758,862. So far this year, 11,256 D3 RINs have been generated for cellulosic diesel, with 747,606 generated for cellulosic heating oil. Since the beginning of 2018, 11,256 D3 RINs have been generated domestically, with 747,606 generated by importers.
More than 6.6 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in April, bringing the net total for the first four months of the year to nearly 29.37 million. Nearly 8.06 million D5 RINs have been generated for ethanol, with 11.81 million generated for naphtha, 1.5 million generated for heating oil, 8.21 million generated for nonester renewable diesel and 305,757 generated for renewable compressed natural gas. All the D5 RINs generated so far this year have been generated domestically.
More than 1.24 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in April, bringing the net total for the first four months of the year to 4.89 billion. Most, 4.8 billion, were generated for ethanol, with 96.03 million generated for nonester renewable diesel. So far this year, 4.8 billion D6 RINs have been generated domestically, with 3.8 million generated by importers and 96.03 million generated by foreign entities.
Nearly 314.4 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in April, bringing the net total for the first four months of the year to more than 1.09 billion. The majority, 854.23 million, were generated for biodiesel, with 246.24 million generated for nonester renewable diesel and 1.07 million generated for renewable jet fuel. Nearly 912.29 million D4 RINs have been generated domestically, with 80.78 million generated by importers and 108.48 million generated by foreign entities.
As of the end of April, the EPA estimates that nearly 6.14 billion RINs have been generated so far this year, with 218.83 million retired, 211.95 million locked and available and 5.71 billion unlocked and available.
