Japan-based Renova Inc. on Oct. 14 announced that its 75-megawatt (MW) Omaezakikou Biomass Power Plant&nbsp;resumed operations on Oct. 10. The facility was idled in June following a malfunction of auxiliary boiler equipment.&nbsp;The Omaezakikou facility, located at the Port of Omaezaki in the southernmost part of Shizuoka Prefecture at the mouth of Suruga Bay, is fueled with wood pellets and palm kernel shells (PKS).&nbsp;The facility was originally scheduled to begin operations in December 2023 but faced several delays. The plant officially began operations on Jan. 29, 2025.&nbsp;Renova in July announced that the Omaezakikou facility temporarily shut down on June 29 due to leakage from boiler auxiliary equipment that was detected during operation. Inspections determined the issue was caused by an equipment malfunction. &nbsp;Repair work commenced and Renova initially planned to resume operation at the Omaezakikou plant in September. The company on Sept. 22 announced restart of the plant will be postponed until October due to a delay in the delivery of necessary materials. The company on Oct. 14 confirmed the plant is once again operational.&nbsp;The Omaezakikou plant was scheduled to complete a 20-day maintenance outage in January 2026. However, major inspection and preventative maintenance work planned for that time was completed as part of the recent repair work. As a result, Renova said the planned January 2026 maintenance has been unnecessary. Accordingly, the company plans to conduct only a follow-up inspection of the repaired areas in January 2026.The Omaezakikou facility is one of several biomass power plants developed by Renova. The company also operates the 75-MW&nbsp;Morinomiyako Biomass Power Plant, the 74.8-MW Tokushima Tsuda Biomass Power Plant, the 75-MW Ishinomaki Hibarino Biomass, the 50-MW Karatsu Biomass Power Plant, the 20.5-MW Akita Biomass facility and the 75-MW Kanda Biomass plant.&nbsp;&nbsp;
