Nearly 1.65 billion renewable identification numbers (RINs) were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard in February, down 10% when compared to the same month of last year, according to data released by the U.S. EPA on March 19. Total RIN generation for the first two months of 2026 reached 3.44 billion, down 2% when compared to the same period of 2025.Approximately 8.28 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in February, including 5.98 million generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers, 2.27 million for renewable natura gas (RNG) by domestic producers and 27,795 for compressed RNG by domestic producers.&nbsp;Total D3 RIN generation for the first two months of the year reached 120.33 million, down 28% when compared to the same period of last year. That volume includes 104.04 million generated for RNG by domestic producers, 12.02 million generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers, 4.2 million generated for RNG by importers, and 74,882 generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers.More than 480.48 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in February, including 302.31 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 138.14 million generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 29.98 million generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers, 9.91 million generated for renewable jet fuel by foreign entities, and 142,666 generated for biodiesel by importers.&nbsp;Total D4 RIN generation for the first two months of 2026 reached 919.11 million, down 2% when compared to the same period of 2025. That volume includes 579.58 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 270.29 million generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 58.9 million generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers, 9.91 million generated for renewable jet fuel by foreign entities and 427,992 generated for biodiesel by importers.&nbsp;Approximately 17.13 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in February, including 7.77 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 5.93 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 2.2 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 616,702 generated for LPG by domestic producers, 591,469 generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers and 24,493 generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers.&nbsp;Total D5 RIN generation for the first two months of the year reached 38.36 million, down 20% when compared to the same period of last year. That volume includes 16.98 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 14.52 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 4.87 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 1.27 million generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers, 616,702 generated for LPG by domestic producers, 84,203 generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers and27,073 generated for RNG by domestic producers.More than 1.14 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in February, nearly all for ethanol by domestic producers, with 1.14 million generated for ethanol by importers.&nbsp;Total D6 RIN generation for the first two months of 2026 reached 2.36 billion, down slightly when compared to the same period of 2025. Nearly all of that volume was generated for ethanol by domestic producers, with 2.38 million generated for ethanol by importers. &nbsp;No D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated in February. Total D7 RIN generation for the first two months of the year reached 9,226, all of which were generated or cellulosic heating oil by importers. D7 RIN generation was down 68% when compared to the first two months of last year.
