Sumitomo Corp. on Nov. 28 announced a new 112 megawatt (MW) biomass power plant has begun commercial operations in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. The facility is fueled by wood pellets and wood chips.
Biomass energy sources supplied more than 9% of the U.K.’s electricity in during July, setting a new monthly record, according to the latest Electric Insights Quarterly report released by Imperial College London on Dec. 3.
The U.S. Department of Energy on Dec. 1 announced it has renamed the National Renewable Energy Laboratory as the National Laboratory of the Rockies. The change is effective immediately, according to the agency.
The European Commission on Nov. 26 adopted a new Strategic Framework for a Competitive and Sustainable EU Bioeconomy, which focuses on sustainable solutions for food, health, energy, industry, the ecosystem and other services.
Operable U.S. biofuels capacity was largely unchanged in September, according to data released by the U.S. EIA on Nov. 28. Feedstock consumption was down when compared to both the previous month and September 2024.
