Multiple revenue streams lessen impact of ethanol prices
The Renewable Fuels Association will host a free Ethanol Safety Seminar in Fort Worth, Texas on Nov. 29 at the Fire Service Training Center on the northwest campus of Tarrant County College. There will be a day session and an evening session.
Valero Energy Corp. has released its latest quarterly financial results. While the company's ethanol segment continues to struggle with high margins, Valero's management seems confident that margins will continue to improve.
INEOS Bio has announced that its joint-venture project, INEOS New Planet BioEnergy, has reached another milestone and is now producing renewable power using INEOS Bio's feedstock flexible BioEnergy technology.
Valero Renewables has once again idled two of its 10 ethanol plants due to tight margins. The two 120 MMgy plants at Albion, Neb., and Linden, Ind., were idled earlier in the summer, restarted in September and have recently been idled again.
Novozymes launched a new enzyme for corn-ethanol production on Oct. 30. Avantec, a trademarked product, allows ethanol producers to increase ethanol yield by about 2.5 percent, said Peder Holk Nielsen, executive vice president of Novozymes.

Reactor geometry, impeller design important to power optimization
Abengoa Bioenergy of Illinois LLC, an 88 MMgy corn ethanol plant in Madison, Ill., is being temporarily idled for maintenance. Chris Standlee, executive vice president for Abengoa Bioenergy, said that he doesn't expect the shutdown to be long term.
For 32 years, the Alcohol School has provided an educational and networking opportunity for fuel and beverage alcohol industry employees and suppliers. This fall's course began Monday in Montreal with 90 participants.
The Swedish SP Fire Technology is publishing a new handbook, "Fires in silos," presenting a method of tackling silo fires. The handbook has been published in Swedish, with an English version to be available shortly.
