European producer announces plant restart

European ethanol producer Ensus Ltd. announced it will restart its 400 MMly (106 MMgy) plant in Teesside, U.K. The plant began operations in January 2010, but has been idle for the past 15 months. The facility is Europe's largest wheat ethanol plant.

North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue has filed an official waiver request of the renewable fuel standard. The Renewable Fuels Association issued a statement calling for the U.S. EPA to reject the waiver request.
ZeroPoint Clean Tech Inc. recently announced that the biomass gasification plant it developed in Newry, Ireland, is now operational. The installation is the second commercial-scale biomass gasification plant that the company has brought online.
The legal battle between Gevo Inc. and Butamax Advanced Biofuels LLC is continuing. On Aug. 14 each announced the filing of a new lawsuit, one claiming patent infringement and the second asking that that patent be declared invalid.
On Aug.14 Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that 106 projects have been awarded funding under the USDA Rural Development's Rural Energy for America Program, including five biomass-related projects.

There's a great video done from the DOE that talks about homegrown biofuels, albeit mostly advanced biofuels, though corn ethanol plants are shown, I suspect as evidence that this is real at commercial scale.
The U.S. EPA has awarded Colorado-based TDA Research Inc. a $300,000 contract under its Small Business Innovation Research program competition to support the demonstration of proprietary biogas purification technology.
