RFS Power Coalition launched by BPA, ABC, ERC

Three trade associations representing renewable electricity producers have announced the launch of the RFS Power Coalition, which aims to get the EPA to implement a law mandating the inclusion of qualifying renewable electricity under the RFS.
A report recently issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission shows the U.S added 68 MW of biomass power last year. An additional 572 MW of biomass capacity could be installed by January 2022.
The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy has a new leader. Daniel Simmons was recently sworn in assistant secretary for energy efficiency and renewable energy.
Aemetis Inc. announced Feb. 7 that it has initiated the permitting and construction phase of its multi-dairy renewable biomethane digester cluster. The project will produce RNG will be used in ethanol production or as a vehicle fuel.
On Feb. 5, the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works voted 11 to 10 to advance the nomination of Acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler to fill the post of administrator of the agency. The full Senate will now consider his nomination.
NIB and wastewater treatment company Vestfjorden Avløpsselskap have signed a 15-year loan agreement to finance capacity improvements at Norway's largest wastewater treatment plant south of Olso that will enable increased biogas production.

HRS Heat Exchangers has announced its biogas dehumidification system (BDS) removes water from biogas, protecting combined-heat-and-power (CHP) engines from corrosion and cavitation. It also comes with a heat recovery section as standard.
The city of Longmont, Colorado, has begun construction on its biogas treatment and RNG fueling station project with CGRS Inc. at the helm. Once complete, the project will convert sewage gas into RNG to fuel the city's trash trucks.

On Jan. 17, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the Green New Deal, a clean energy and jobs agenda that calls for the state to achieve 100 percent clean power by 2040. It also aims to set new renewable energy mandates.
BTA International GmbH and its North American partner CCI BioEnergy Inc. have completed a major waste-to-gas facility in Varennes, Quebec. The facility is owned by SÉMECS and converts household organic waste into biogas.

Canada has officially become a member of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Canada becomes the Agency's 160th member to join the global intergovernmental organization dedicated to the widespread adoption of renewable energy.
FuelCell Energy Inc. has announced progress with the development of two biogas fuel cell projects in California, including one in Orange County that will convert landfill gas into renewable electricity and hydrogen.
On Jan. 9, President Trump formally nominated Andrew Wheeler to serve as administrator of the U.S. EPA. Wheeler has held the post of acting administrator since July 9, 2018, following Scott Pruitt's resignation earlier that month.
The Arizona Corporation Commission has announced a new effort to expand bioenergy production. On Dec. 19, the group announced its commissioners recently voted to adopt a policy statement addressing the role of forest bioenergy in Arizona.

The U.K. government recently released updated quarterly energy statistics showing that the renewables share of electricity generation increased to a record 33.1 percent during the third quarter of 2018.

The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for November, reporting that nearly 1.58 billion RINs were generated during the month, including nearly 27.83 million cellulosic RINs.
Waste Management recently released its 2018 sustainability report, highlighting its achievements in using landfill gas to generate electricity and produce renewable natural gas (RNG) for use as transportation fuel.
