U.S. manufacturers produced approximately 880,000 tons of densified biomass fuel in April, according to the U.S. EIA’s Monthly Densified Biomass Fuels Report. Sales of densified biomass fuel reached 900,000 tons during the month.
Wood pellet consumption in the EU is expected to expand by 2% this year, driven by increased residual use, according to a report filed with the USDA. That increased demand is forecast to result in a partial recovery of EU wood pellet imports.
Japan-based Renova Inc. on July 21 announced operations have been temporarily suspended at its 74.8-megawatt (MW) Tokushima Tsuda Biomass Power Plant for repair work. The facility is expected to resume operations soon.
New Energy Risk on July 7 announced the expansion of its existing partnership with Yilkins to extend insurance coverage under NER’s master policy to include Yilkins’ advanced pellet torrefaction process.
The assets of Louisiana-based Delta Biofuel are being offered for sale via auction. The company’s purpose-built biomass pellet plant located in Jeanerette, Louisiana, is designed to convert sugarcane bagasse into fuel pellets.
