The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) generation data for September, reporting that 1.58 billion RINs were generated during the month, including 28.84 million cellulosic RINs.

More than 28.84 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in September, including 19.52 million generated for renewable compressed natural gas by domestic producers, 5.46 million generated for renewable liquefied natural gas by domestic producers, 2.72 million generated for renewable liquefied natural gas by importers and 888,689 generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers.

During the first nine months of the year, nearly 196.24 million D3 RINs were generated, including 132.07 million for renewable compressed natural gas by domestic producers, 33.26 million for renewable liquefied natural gas by domestic producers, 19.65 million for renewable liquefied natural gas by importers, 5.57 million for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers, 4.07 million for renewable compressed natural gas by importers, and 1.62 million for cellulosic ethanol by importers.

No D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated in September.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 1.51 million D7 RINs have been generated, including 1.05 million for cellulosic heating oil generated by importers and 11,256 for cellulosic diesel generated by domestic producers.

More than 15.78 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in September, including 5.28 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 4.21 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 4.2 million generated for ethanol by importers, 2.03 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 36,376 generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers, and 23,560 generated for renewable compressed natural gas by domestic producers.

During the first three quarters of 2018, more than 91.89 million D5 RINs were generated, including 24.31 million for ethanol by importers, 24.07 million for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 21.98 million for naphtha by domestic producers, 18.68 million for ethanol by domestic producers, 1.8 million for renewable heating oil by domestic producers and 1.04 million for renewable compressed natural gas by domestic producers.

Nearly 1.22 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in September, including 1.21 billion generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 8.69 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, and 1.04 million generated for ethanol by importers.

During the first nine months of the year, nearly 11.39 billion D6 RINs were generated, including 11.22 billion for ethanol by domestic producers, 158.05 million for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, and 9.52 million for ethanol by importers.

Nearly 321.73 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in September, including 234.41 million generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 48.61 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 20.82 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 17.64 million generated for biodiesel by importers, and 241,731 generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers.

During the first three quarters of the year, more than 1.75 billion D4 RINs were generated, including 2.02 billion generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 279.96 generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 279 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 168.37 million generated for biodiesel by importers and 1.88 million generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers.

EPA’s data shows nearly 14.43 billion RINs have been generated so far this year.
