Iberdrola to manage biomass power delivery

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District in California has agreed to purchase electricity from a 55-megawatt biomass cogeneration plant being built adjacent to Simpson Tacoma Kraft Co. LLC's pulp and linerboard mill in Tacoma, Wash. The contract would begin when the plant is slated to start production in July. According to Portland, Ore.-based Iberdrola Renewables, which will manage delivery of the power, the plant will use sawmill and paper mill byproducts, demolition waste, and logging debris to generate steam to produce electricity, and to power Simpson Tacoma Kraft's manufacturing process.
