BCAP project area proposal deadline nearing

By Anna Austin | April 25, 2011

The USDA Farm Service Agency has issued a notice to remind applicants that the deadline for Biomass Crop Assistance Program project area proposals is in one month.

To be considered, proposals must be submitted to the applicable state office by close of business on May 27.

If selected as a BCAP project area, biomass crop producers will be eligible for reimbursements of up to 75 percent of the cost of establishing a bioenergy perennial crop, as well as up to 5 years of annual payments for grassy crops (annual or perennial), and up to 15 years of annual payments for woody crops (annual or perennial).

Project proposals must include, at a minimum: delineation of the geographic boundaries of the project using areas such as acres, watershed boundaries, mapped longitude and latitude coordinates or counties; a description of the eligible land and eligible crops to be established and produced in the project, including limitations, if any, on the types of and nature of eligible crops to be established; a letter of commitment from a biomass conversion facility to use the eligible crops that will be produced in the project area; and evidence that the biomass conversion facility has sufficient equity available if the facility is not yet in operation at the time the proposal is submitted.

The BCAP project area proposal submission form is available online for download here.
