Mount Vernon, Ind., local officials, state and county representatives, business owners, residents, employees and company representatives marked the grand opening of Aventine Renewable Energy's Mount Vernon Ethanol Plant on Wednesday, April 6.
The Spring 2011 Fuel Ethanol Plant Map is Ethanol Producer Magazine's twice-yearly look at the industry, shows 211 ethanol plants in the United State, both producing and idled, with a combined capacity of 14.31 billion gallons.

Evergreen State College Biomass Project Derailed

I was disappointed to learn that Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash., had to shelve its $14 million biomass gasification plant project, possibly preventing the institution from reaching its goal of being completely carbon neutral by 2020.
Interjet and Airbus conducted the first jatropha-based biofuel test flight in Mexico recently. The Airbus 320 jet successfully flew from Mexico City's International Airport to Angel Albino Corzo of Tuxtla Gutierrez airport in Chiapas.

Poet is now selling its trademarked Voilà corn oil from Poet Biorefining–Hudson (S.D.) into biodiesel and feed markets, and its success has prompted Poet to start plans for rolling out its patent-pending production to its other plants.
Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., still plans to force a vote on an amendment to immediately repeal the Volumetric Ethanol Excise Tax Credit after agreeing to withdraw it from the Small Business Bill.
Project development is moving forward on two ethanol plants in China--a demonstration plant using LanzaTech technology converting carbon dioxide to ethanol, the other an MSW-to-ethanol plant.
Small shipments of U.S. ethanol have been received by ports in northeast Brazil over the past few months, but activity is expected to ramp up in the coming weeks as demand increases in the industrial regions near Sao Paulo and Rio de Janiero.
