ABFA calls for immediate 45Z guidance and extension of blender credits

The ABFA is urging the Biden administration to immediately issue the guidance necessary for the industry to claim the 45Z Clean Fuels Production Credit. The group is also calling on Congress to extend the existing blender credits.
In 2024, the U.S. East Coast became a consistent destination for small volumes of renewable diesel as a few suppliers and local governments began offering or consuming the fuel, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
Eco-Energy has announced the expansion of its Transport Emission Reduction Certificate program with the launch of TERC-Biodiesel and TERC-Renewable Diesel. The new certificates are a voluntary carbon program for heavy-duty trucking.
On Nov. 20, EPRI and the Tennessee Valley Authority announced the successful demonstration of renewable diesel as a combustion turbine fuel for power generation. The demonstration was performed on a 76-MW dual-fuel natural gas/diesel unit.
Clean Fuels Alliance America members have elected new governing board members. The new leadership reflects the interests of both large and small companies, biodiesel and renewable diesel producers, as well as soybean growers and renderers.

DOE announces $20.2 million in projects to advance development of mixed algae for biofuels and bioproducts

The U.S. Department of Energy on Nov. 14 announced $20.2 million in funding for 10 university and industry projects spanning seven states to advance mixed algae development for low-carbon biofuels and bioproducts.
Clean Fuels Alliance America and nine national and state associations on Nov. 14 wrote to House and Senate leaders requesting a one-year extension of the §40A Biodiesel and Renewable Diesel Tax Incentive.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration maintained its 2024 and 2025 forecasts for the production of biodiesel, renewable diesel and other biofuels, including SAF, in its latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, released Nov. 13.
CARB on Nov. 8 approved updates to its LCFS that aim to reduce the CI of the state’s transportation fuel by 30% by 2030. The updates also alter how a variety of biofuels, including biobased diesel and RNG, participate in the program.
Marathon Petroleum Corp. on Nov. 5 confirmed the Martinez Renewable Fuels biorefinery in California remains on track to be operating at full nameplate capacity by the end of the year. At full capacity, the facility can produce 730 MMgy.
Aemetis Inc. on Nov. 5 announced strong support for the updated Low Carbon Fuel Standard proposal and strongly urges its adoption by the California Air Resources Board at its meeting on Nov. 8.
Imperial Oil Ltd. on Nov. 1 confirmed that its renewable diesel project under construction at the company’s Strathcona refinery near Edmonton, Alberta, continues to progress on schedule with startup expected during the first half of next year.
PBF Energy Inc. on Oct. 31 announced that its St. Bernard Renewables facility produced 13,000 barrels per day of renewable diesel during the third quarter. Production is expected to increase during the fourth quarter.
CVR Energy Inc. on Oct. 29 announced that the renewable diesel unit at its Wynnewood refinery in Oklahoma processed 19.6 million gallons of vegetable oil feedstock during the third quarter, down from 23.8 million gallons during the same period of 2023.
Call for speaker abstracts now open for the 2025 International Biomass Conference & Expo

The call for presentation abstracts for the 18th Annual International Biomass Conference & Expo, produced by Biomass Magazine, is now open. The event will take place March 18-20, 2025, at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta, Georgia.

Valerie Sarisky-Reed, director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office, discusses ways her agency is doing its part to strengthen America’s bioeconomy and supply chain to support clean energy innovation.
Neste has revised down its 2024 guidance for renewable products, citing substantially reduced diesel prices. The company said waste and residue feedstock prices have not decreased and renewable product market price premiums have remained weak.
