Texas-based Waste Management Inc. has made a strategic investment in Delaware-based Agnion Energy Inc. to advance Agnion's allothermal gasification technology. The technology uses a Heatpipe Reformer design to convert mostly MSW into syngas.
ZeaChem Inc. has signed a long-term feedstock agreement with GreenWood Tree Farm Fund LP to provide the majority of the feedstock required for ZeaChem's 25 MMgy cellulosic biorefinery, which will be located at Boardman, Ore.
With the help of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Arborgen has identified a lignin-modified eucalyptus tree that can release twice as much sugar as unmodified trees, which bodes well for next-generation biofuel projects.

RWE opens world's largest wood pellet plant

European power utility RWE Innogy has officially opened its 750,000 metric ton-per-year wood pellet manufacturing plant on a 740-acre site near Waycross, Ga., following a ribbon-cutting ceremony held late last week.
KiOR Inc. continues its aggressive push of securing downstream partnerships for its future biocrude-based products as the company recently signed a fuel supply agreement with FedEx Corporate Services Inc.
Ohio-based Independence Bio-Products recently announced that algae oil the company produced has been converted into jet fuel and tested by the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, part of the Algae to Fuel project.
GreenField Ethanol Inc. has announced the launch of G2 BioChem, a collaborative partnership that will acquire, validate and commercialize GreenField's cellulosic ethanol production technology. G2 BioChem is backed by Andritz AG and Novozymes.
On May 11, Rep. Jay Inslee, D-Wash., introduced legislation, H.R. 1847, to authorize the U.S. Department of Defense to engage in 15 year contracts for advanced biofuels instead of the limiting five-year allowance the department has now.
