Montauk Renewables Inc. on Aug. 6 reported the company produced approximately 1.4 million metric British thermal units (MMBtu) of renewable natural gas (RNG) during the second quarter of this year, unchanged when compared to production during the same period of 2024. The company also produced approximately 42,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable electricity during the second quarter, down 3,000 MWh when compared to the same quarter of last year.&nbsp;Montauk Renewables completed construction and commissioning of the second RNG process facility at the company’s Apex facility in Amsterdam, Ohio, during the second quarter. The company also signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for its Montauk Ag Renewables project in Turkey, North Carolina, in July. The term of the PPA begins once the facility is commissioned and is for 10 years covering 100% of the electricity produced.During a second quarter earnings call held Aug. 7, Montauk Renewables President and CEO Sean McClain discussed the impact of recent regulatory and policy issues on the company’s operations. He noted the U.S. EPA’s decision to reduce the 2024 Renewable Fuel Standard renewable volume obligation (RVO) for cellulosic biofuel has limited direct impact on Montauk’s operations, as the company has already sold all of its 2024 renewable identification numbers (RINs). The EPA’s proposal to reduce the 2025 cellulosic RVO and constrain the cellulosic RVO by total usage capacity, however, does seem to be limiting the value of 2025 cellulosic RINs, he indicated.&nbsp;McClain noted that Montauk earlier this year entered into an agreement with Pioneer Renewable Energy Marketing to form a joint venture, referred to as GreenWave Energy Partners. The primary goal of that joint venture is to help address limited capacity of RNG utilization for transportation by offering third-party RNG volumes access to exclusive, unique and proprietary transportation pathways, he added.&nbsp;Montauk reported second quarter revenues of $45.1 million, up 4.1% when compared to the same period of last year. The average realized RIN price in the second quarter was $2.42, down approximately 22.4%. The company reported a net loss of $5.5 million for the second quarter, compared to a net loss of $700,000 reported for the same period of last year.&nbsp;&nbsp;
