Corn ethanol can achieve net-zero carbon emissions before 2050

A report released on Feb. 21 shows that new and emerging technologies and practices could help the ethanol industry achieve net-zero carbon emissions well before its current goal of 2050, according to the RFA.
Corn stover ethanol production still holds great promise. But at least two of the former “big three” assets in the space have been repurposed for different forms of biofuel production.
The program will finance pilot projects that create market opportunities for U.S. agricultural and forestry products that use climate-smart practices and include innovative, cost-effective ways to measure and verify greenhouse gas benefits.
LanzaJet has entered into an MOU with Marquis Sustainable Aviation Fuel to construct a to construct a 120 MMgy sustainable fuels plant using low-CI feedstocks to produce SAF and renewable diesel via the LanzaJet alcohol-to-jet process.

DOE issues new RFI on renewable fuel scale-up, demonstration

The DOE is seeking input from biofuels producers and technology developers about their readiness to scale certain process technologies. The agency is also interested in learning how existing first-generation biofuel indsutries can be leveraged.
The USDA's Commodity Credit Corp. announced Dec. 23 that it does not expect to purchase and sell sugar under the Feedstock Flexibility Program for crop year 2021, which runs from Oct. 1, 2021 through Sept. 30, 2022.
